Our mission is to spread professional psychotherapy and psychiatric services within Japan and the world by using the American Psychological Association (APA) and New York State‘s Department of Education (NYSED) standards for training and delivery of mental health services.

Our founder, Dr. Furr, comes from the rigorous and competitive culture of New York.  These standards are listed for each profession on the NYSED Office of Professions Learn more 

The home organization was founded in New York City in 2013, trains and sponsors visa and licenses for professionals, and is an internship site for NYU and Columbia University.

The founder is a product of NYU and New York education, but has a direct lineage of doctoral authority brought to Japan by the Japanese External Trade Organization (Jetro). Membership

We offer our certification to those that meet Master’s level and beyond training and experience hours

Membership is available to individuals who have obtained at least an undergraduate degree from a college or university that meets U.S. or equivalent standards for a Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a similar scientific discipline.

Membership is open to all those with at least an undergraduate level from college or university that meets APA or equivalent standards for a Bachelor’s degree in psychology or equivalent scientific discipline. Enrollment is immediate and must be maintained by submitting transcripts or supporting documents within 30 days.

We offer our certification to those that meet Master’s level and beyond training and experience hours sufficient to qualify for our optional malpractice insurance. Evidence of graduation, degrees or licenses for members must be submitted for such credentialing at no additional cost.

How to Join

Joining is easy for those who are eligible. Simply fill out the online application, pay the non-refundable fee and submit required proof of qualifications within 30 days. We will accept credit card and bank transfer.

International Mental Health Providers of Japan (IMHPJ)members: All IMHPJ members are automatically accepted with fee. IMHPJ has high standards of membership and a tradition honored by JTA.

Membership Fees: 10,000 Yen for regular member and 4000 Yen for overseas and active students
